“The sun rises from behind”
This is the name of a kilim which is designed and weaved by Papa Ibra Tall, in 1970.
It is 2.40 *1.70 square meters, made of wool and natural colors. It shows a man sitting on a throne, while sun is shining from behind him and a woman is standing in front of him.
Papa Ibra Tall, the African artist, was born in 1935, in Tivaouana, Senegal. In 1955, he went to France and studied painting and architecture. While studying in France, he was living next to an exhibition of carpets and rugs and …, so he was influenced by the colors and designs and started designing and weaving. In 1960 he came back to his country. In 1970 he established a loom and developed a modern art of weaving in Senegal.
Since 1960, he has been holding several exhibitions around the world.
